To Whom It May Concern...

All ten works are printed on paper of unifirm size. Kuper, however, determined that two out of
the ten were to be vertical compositions, in contrast to the horizontal nature of the other eight.
Instead of demonstrating his painterly touch, Kuper has chosen photography, training the eye of
his camera on slices of daily existence that, but for him, would pass unnoticed. The raw material
of his subject matter are objects he has encountered on city streets. What ties all these
elements together into a unified whole is the selection and viewpoint of the images. We are not
used to being so visually intimate with things we usually ignore, step on, or walk over. The low
camera angle he often uses puts us where our eye rarely goes, and his thoughtful use of
cropping frames what he wants us to see and feel.
